“Make this happen and not the return of Messi”, Twitter reacts as Pedri wants Barcelona to make a move for Marco Asensio

Pedri, a player for Barcelona, has suggested that the team make a bid for Real Madrid’s Marco Asensio since the player has yet to sign a contract extension with Los Blancos.

With his current contract at Santiago Bernabeu scheduled to expire in June 2023, the Spain international will be free to arrange a pre-contract agreement with any possible suitors in January. Speculation regarding his future has been fueled by reports linking him to Barcelona and Manchester United, but Real Madrid has postponed extension discussions with him until he returns from Qatar.

Pedri, a midfielder for Barcelona, hopes that his team will take advantage of this standoff and sign the Spanish international.

“You have to see what happens with the Asensio contract but I think all the good players have to be in Barcelona,” he said to COPE.

But he hedged when asked if he would try to persuade his national teammate to join, saying: “I’m not much for doing those things, convincing anyone.”

While Asensio has made clear that he wants to remain with the capital club, he has also left the door open to other opportunities.

“Hopefully the renewal can be done and I will be very happy at Real Madrid. Hopefully, it’s to stay for 10 more years here at Real. It’s not just me deciding – it’s also up to the club,” he stated to Radio Marca recently.

The winger’s goal in Spain’s 7-0 defeat of Costa Rica was a stunning start to the World Cup, and he’ll be looking to add to that in Sunday’s massive matchup with Germany.

Although Asensio has been at Real Madrid since 2015, the club’s plethora of offensive skills under Carlo Ancelotti has restricted his starting appearances in recent years.
