The addition of Joao Gomes to Wolverhampton Wanderers raises the possibility that Ruben Neves may join Barcelona this summer
Barcelona is reportedly getting closer to signing Ruben Neves, a midfielder of note, the next summer. The Catalan giants are not in a position to make a move this month. They will have to wait until the summer to do so financially. Throughout his career with the Wolves, Ruben Neves has established himself as a legend. The 25-year-old Portuguese international joined the Midlands team while they were in the Championship. He played a vital part in their promotion to the Premier League.
While the Wolves have maintained their status as a top team ever since Neves has been a major contributor. There have been concerns that he may leave at the end of the current season despite his many years of service as a glue player in the middle of the field.
As early as the summer of 2021, Neves was almost signed by Arsenal. To replace Granit Xhaka, who was expected to go with AS Roma, the Gunners pursued him. As it turned out, the Swiss international decided to stay at the Emirates, therefore ending any hopes of Arsenal acquiring the Wolves midfielder.

The Portuguese international’s 25-year career has been marked by consistent success. He may have better luck this summer, however. Joao Gomes, a highly regarded Brazilian midfielder, has already been signed by Wolves from Flamengo. The end of Neves’ time at the Molineux might be hastened by his presence.
The 25-year-old Portuguese national team star is eager to leave Porto. He has drawn attention from Barcelona. Because of their severe financial difficulties, the Catalan giants have no realistic options for January transfers, including Neves.
Will the Catalans sign him?
The midfield position has been identified as a top priority for a potential summer move by the Blaugrana. Although they were serious contenders to sign Real Sociedad enforcer Martin Zubimendi, Barcelona has now dropped out of the bidding.
Given Barcelona’s financial situation, they cannot afford to trigger Zubimendi’s €60 million clause. They are confident in being able to get Neves at that time. They anticipate his transfer price to be far lower than that of Real Sociedad’s top player.
Neves would want to play at Camp Nou. But a transfer is contingent on the team he now plays for, the Wolves. Gomes and Matheus Nunes arriving in the remaining two windows may spell the end for Neves. The Portuguese international player, age 25, will be a key cog from now until the season’s finish. The price that Wolves ask might also affect whether or not a player moves to Barcelona. It’s feared that they’ll want an outrageous amount of money for him, which the Blaugrana would find unacceptable.
