Barcelona has its work cut out for it this summer. The club must not only replace Sergio Busquets but also ensure the futures of its other great players. Ousmane Dembele is one player Barcelona would want to retain. Coach Xavi Hernandez has been instrumental in the Frenchman’s resurgence, which began at the beginning of 2022.
Dembele is now a terrific creative weapon for Barcelona in the final third thanks to Xavi’s work with him. The forward’s status, though, is uncertain as we approach the summer. Dembele is under contract until 2024. But his release clause is just €50 million, meaning that interested parties may sign him for a reduced fee.
However, Barcelona reportedly made the first move in an effort to retain Dembele, as reported by Fabrizio Romano. They have put out a fresh offer regarding Dembele’s contract extension. However, this is just the beginning; more negotiations are inevitable.

Romano explains that Xavi, the coach of Barça, thinks of him as “untouchable,” much like some of the current starting defenders like Ronald Araujo. The Catalans look to be making every effort to avoid selling Dembele for under €50 million this summer. There should be no lack of suitors for the forward, given his achievements and age profile.
While Barcelona will do everything in its power to keep Dembele, the fates of the team’s other attacking players are less guaranteed. As part of the club’s strategy to bring in new revenue, names like Raphinha and Ferran Torres have been linked with a transfer away from Camp Nou. Dembele’s destiny next season may rest in large part on the careers of these other players.
