Barcelona, a La Liga powerhouse, no longer has an interest in Juan Foyth since the club cannot afford to pay his asking price of €54.6 million
The Spanish publication SPORT claims that Barcelona is no longer interested in signing Juan Foyth. The €54.6 million release clause of the 2022 FIFA World Cup champion has made him an unattractive choice. Benjamin Pavard and Thomas Meunier, two very inexpensive players, will be high on Barcelona’s signing priority list.
Juan Foyth, once of Tottenham Hotspur, has found new life in Spain with Villarreal. The Argentina international had a productive loan season with Estadio de la Ceramica in 2020-21. Last year, Villarreal signed him on a permanent basis to end his disastrous time with Tottenham.
The 24-year-old has had a frustrating 2022/23 season due to a string of ailments. And in all competitions, Foyth has only made six appearances. Even in the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, when Argentina won it all, the player only played for four minutes. Nonetheless, Foyth has become a sensation in the Catalan capital.
During the summer transfer window, Barcelona tried to get the World Cup champion. The Catalan powerhouses were unable to go further with a deal because of his prohibitive release clause. Despite Barcelona’s continued interest in Foyth, Villarreal has reiterated that they want €54.6 million to sell the player.
Will Juan Foyth come to the Camp Nou?
For the second summer in a row, Barcelona needs to add a right-back to their roster. A few months previously, the Blaugrana had signed Hector Bellerin on a free transfer. The Spaniard has been unable to create an impression at Spotify Camp Nou. He is expected to depart Barcelona in the next year.
Barcelona, seeing Foyth as a now-realistic goal, considered making his signing a top priority. The Catalan giants, though, have once again run into trouble with his release clause. They also lack the necessary resources to pay the €54.6 million required to secure the services of the 2022 FIFA World Cup victor. Barcelona, meantime, will explore available replacements for Foyth.
Barcelona is looking at cost-effective options like Thomas Meunier and Benjamin Pavard. It will be exciting to watch who of the two Bundesliga players signs with the Blaugrana for the next season. Foyth, on the other hand, is expected to stay at Villarreal through the end of the summer transfer season.
